“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
Hebrews 6:19-20 NIV
Many times, the worries of life, our busy agenda, our financial obligations, and just life itself create a hurricane in our soul. Did you know that the safest place for a boat during the onslaught of a hurricane is far away from the coast, held in place by its anchor? Anchors are small and at quick glance, they don’t seem too powerful, but they’re capable of anchoring boats 100 times their size. The word of God does the same thing in our heart; it anchors our soul to what we can’t see, to what He has declared, and to what is yet to come.
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:8 NIV
This is the assurance that we have: His word endures forever. Whether you lost your job, you don’t have your citizenship, your son is rebelling, you don’t have children after many years of marriage, you’re a widow and you don’t know how to face the world alone, or you’ve never been married, His word endures no matter the situation you find yourself in. Regardless of what’s causing you anxiety and weighing you down, the real and true word of God will be the anchor that will tell uplift you and tell you:
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13
So take heart today. Acknowledge your fears, struggles, and circumstances, pour them out before God, and ask Him to anchor your soul in His word. Your situation may not change, but you will learn to rest secure in Him.The Anchor for Our Souls
