As we begin another year, there is a joyous expectation in our hearts, while at the same time the taste in our mouths of a not so long ago 2020 still remains. So the question is: what expectations should we have as we enter 2021? Should we prepare for the worst and hope for the best as most do or do we just shut our eyes blindly and walk into this new year without a clue of what to do?
Well, as believers in Christ, our first response should be to go to the word of God for direction, guidance, and fresh perspective on things. You see, God sees things rather differently than you or I do. He has a full view of things: the things that have already happened, the things that are happening right now, and those that are yet to happen. Yet to us this might be a little overwhelming, for the Bible says that “with much knowledge comes much grief” (Ecclesiastes 1:18). So what do we do?
We stretch into the future with great expectation because we know that whatever happens, all things will work out for us (Romans 8:28). When confronted with the issue of how to proceed forward with his life and ministry, the Apostle Paul shared his thought process with us by saying, “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us”
(Philippians 3:13-14 NLT). These words are directives straight from the throne of God to us.
Dear Pneuma Church family or any other reader that has taken interest in this short article, it’s time to move forward! Yes, that’s right! What lies ahead is far greater than anything we have ever gone through. A better life, better opportunities, better moments await us if we just forget the past, no matter how glorious or painful it was. However, to forget the past we need to focus on what lies ahead and that might be exactly where you don’t want to go. Your faith has been battered, hope shaken, and God’s promises over your life seem distant and far-fetched. Yet, I’m here to tell you to TRUST GOD in 2021!!! Trust His goodness, His mercy, His love, His compassion, and His wisdom over your life. See, the verse we just read says that we are in a race and we must press on towards the end. We must persevere and endure the different things that come our way, but there is a reward that awaits us. A heavenly reward which we should not lose sight of and which should motivate us when we are ready to give up.
The moment will come when all the troubles and difficulties of this life will be a distant memory as we see our Lord face to face, but in the meantime, we move towards 2021 with joy, hope, and full of the Holy Spirit. I encourage you to go to our YouTube Channel (@PneumaChurchMiami) and watch the message called “God’s Plan for Us in 2021” that I shared on December 27, 2020. There I share a word from Isaiah 35 about what God is showing me for our Pneuma Church family in 2021. The word the Lord has given me is that 2021 will be a year of fullness, abundance, and double portion. I don’t know about you, but this gets me excited for what God is doing and is going to do. Go ahead and watch it, fill your heart with faith, and let’s make 2021 the best year of our Christian life. We’re walking together through this journey called life; let’s enjoy the ride and glorify God while we are at it.
